I'm not religious at all, but I walked here and went inside and I have to say it's beautiful. I would have added photos but I left my phone in my Motorcoach.

OK, this is too much. I got emotional and felt so relaxed and relieved to feel the holy ghost come over me. I loved every bit of the service and the experience. Thanks!

While the outside of the church seems rather unassuming and quiet, the inside has many beautiful murals and stunning marble columns. This historical church is just North of the metro stops, not far from White House. Peaceful place for reflection.

Beautiful, peaceful, classic old cathedral. Glad I got a chance to finally visit. Nice place to pass a few minutes to appreciate its beauty or escape the hustle and bustle of Washington.
Please note the hours listed via Google maps are the rectory hours, not the church hours. I learned the hard way. I showed up at 730 and the church was closed. I wasn't happy. I submitted a correction for the times, but Google can't seem to verify my correction which comes straight from their web page by choosing "about us", then "location, hours and directions".Added September 10, 2016 by Jay Shriver - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
It is the seat (the place of authority) of the diocese of Washington. The interior is super marvellous, and fairly unique by the multi-colour marbles (other church might only use white, black or gray marbles).
I was also impressed by the four corners of the four symbols of the evangelists: St. Matthew (a child) , St. John (the eagle), St. Luke (the ox), and St. Mark (winged lion), which was explained to me that St. Matthew is accompanied by a child because he discusses the genealogy of Christ, St. Mark's lion represents the power of his gospel (as Mark focused on the deeds and miracles), St. Luke's ox is from the nativity story that he recounts (according to legend, St. Luke's gospel was written from the accounts of Mary), and St. John's eagle represents his ability to discuss the divinity of christ (placing him above the other gospels in scope).
